Leyton Orient Kids Cup - October 2016

Written on: Wednesday 19 October 2016

On Saturday 15th October, our talented footballers from UKS2 took part in the hugely popular ‘Kids Cup’ hosted by Leyton Orient.  This was the third time that we had been invited to a National football tournament!

Looking the part in the South Grove Football kit, the players produced an accomplished performance. We were in a really tough group which included Aldersbrook (eventual winners) and Chingford C of E.

We started really well in our first match against Curwen, creating chance after chance but unfortunately unable to get that all important goal. To add insult to injury, Curwen had one attack and one very good shot (it had to be good Hamzah was fantastic in goal) and scored. We continued to attack but couldn’t get the equalizer and the match finished 1-0 to Curwen.  The second game was against Aldersbrook: a very strong team. We were on the attack from the start and we were first to score (a great goal from Yusuf). Aldersbook came back strong and after a couple of defending mistakes, and confusion over a throw in, they scored three goals.  We were determined to put in a good effort in the last two games. The first was against Loyola, which after a tight game, we lost 1-0.  The last game was against last year’s champions, Chingford C of E.  We put on a fantastic display creating lots of chances but again we went down to a single goal.

Overall we played some fantastic football- the best we have ever seen from South Grove in a tournament. Well done to our goalkeeper Humzah, who made great save after great save, he impressed so much that he was approached by a scout from Chelsea FC!

Congratulations to all of our players for their impressive performances.
