World Book Day Celebration!
Wow what an assembly to celebrate World Book Day! The children looked absolutely brilliant in their costumes where so much effort had been put into these. I must also say that the staff surpassed themselves this year with some lovely imaginative outfits such as The Three Bears, the Lion King and Stick Lady Love!
The assembly just showed how much the children enjoyed reading and how much they can get from the whole experience. We thoroughly enjoyed Drama Club and their performance of ‘Green Eggs and Ham’. How they remembered all of that we do not know! The whole of Year 5 retold a Canadian story which they did with such enthusiasm; it was great to listen to. Year 1 shared their love of the story of Stick Man with Aaminah reading her wonderful re-telling of the story and the Year 1 children adding percussion sounds to go with the events. They shared their Stick Man pictures using real twigs from my garden and letters from Stick Man to his Stick Lady Love were read by Herbie, Isla and Rehman. Children in Year 2 picked the same author, Julia Donaldson and acted out the story of the Gruffalo. They did a really good job!
Reception children shared their favourite books with us and it was fantastic to see that they already have that love of books, stories and favourite characters.
Finally Year 6 re-enacted a scene from their Shakespeare ‘Play in a Day’ experience, ‘Romeo and Juliet’. It was fabulous and very professional!
Our thanks go to Dee Tweedie for her Drama Group contributions and to
Mrs Sandhu-Hanif and Miss McCarthy for putting the assembly together. It is very much appreciated. Of course we thank the children for all their enthusiasm during the assembly and to their continued love of reading.
Finally, a massive thank you to all parents who supported the children by dressing them up. It was difficult but prizes were given to the following children for their World Book Day costumes. Absolutely brilliant!
