ASSEMBLY: Year 5's Victorians

Written on: Wednesday 15 May 2019

What an excellent assembly Year 5 produced on Friday! It was packed full of fascinating facts about living in Victorian times and we actually met Queen Victoria! It felt like a scene from the movie Oliver with urchins dressed for a hard life of work as an employed worker. The children sang songs around working life as a child, the National Anthem to welcome Queen Victoria and within a Victorian Classroom.

The audience were treated to facts about Queen Victoria’s early life and becoming queen. The children showed just how hard it was for children in Victorian times as they had to work for a living instead of going to school until an Education Act was passed that allowed children to have an education. However, as I said to the children at the end of the assembly, it was a very strict regime! The teachers were fearsome (Year 5 pupils loved playing these roles clearly!) Great links were made to current day and the issues that children are now supporting with i.e global warming etc.
A well-polished performance Year 5, fantastic work! Thank you to Miss McCarthy, Ms Deniz and Mrs Rawat for supporting the children to do so well.

is what the parents had to say:

‘Very nice. Well down! I loved it!’

‘Very good. Well done Year 5!’

‘I would pay for a ticket to see such an amazing performance!’

‘Well done Year 5! Great assembly!’
