LKS2 Girls Football - February 2023

Written on: Monday 06 March 2023

On Tuesday 28th February, Mrs Baker and Mrs Hughes took a very excited group of year 3 and 4 girls to a borough football tournament at Chingford Goals.

There were 30 teams in total and when we arrived we were organised into 5 leagues of 6 teams. The top 8 scoring teams out of the 30 would progress to the quarter finals later that day.

South Grove had two teams, B Year 3 and A Year 4.

Here are their results:

South Grove B were represented by: Abigail, Maida, Sarah, Rosie, Pola and Bianca.

This was a tricky league as most of the girls that year 3 faced were in year 4. However the girls worked very hard to play passing football and they grew in confidence as the tournament progressed. Pola, Rosie and Bianca all took turns in goal and did some great saves. Abigail and Sarah made a great effort in closing down the opposition and ran all over the pitch. Maida was a fantastic footballing role model, never giving up and even scoring a goal. We were very impressed with their commitment and enthusiasm in each game. Unfortunately, South Grove B didn’t score enough points to progress to the next round of matches but they really enjoyed the experience.

Year 4 played brilliantly as a team from the start. They worked very hard to support each other and kept to their positions. Due to our fantastic results in the league we were very excited when it was announced that we would be progressing to the quarter finals.

Even though the girls were very tired, they worked very hard to keep their passing game going and they deservedly triumphed.

It was a fantastic team display and all the girls showed commitment and passion in each game. Bitania, ‘the bear’ was very energetic in goal. Aaliyah played well when she came on for both teams. Alaysiah-Mai was solid in defence and passed the ball well. Kimye, Ameera and Leyla never stopped running, tackling and scored some great goals. Aiza was a goal machine and also played with great energy.

This was a great footballing day and we were overjoyed to win the whole tournament. South Grove A team will now go on to represent Waltham Forest in a London schools football competition later in March.
