London Youth Games 2023 Year 3 and 4 Girl’s Football | 23rd March

On a very windy Thursday morning, the Waltham Forest year 3 and 4 champions travelled to Redbridge to compete against the winners from 29 other borough champions.

The teams were organized into mini leagues with the top two teams from each league progressing onto the last 16. We were to face Sutton, Haringey and Westminster.

It was played as a 5 a side tournament on much bigger pitches than we were used to. We were unlucky to be put in a mini league with some very strong opponents but we never gave up and we gave it our best shot.

Results:

South Grove 1 (Maida)  - 6  Sutton

South Grove 0  - 2  Haringey

South Grove 0 -  1 Westminster

 As the league progressed we gained confidence and our results improved. Unfortunately we didn’t make it through to the last 16 but we did continue with the football fun and organized some friendlies against other teams.

It was a fantastic day and we showed a great team spirit. We played particularly well in the friendlies with good passing and pressing. Well done to Kimya who made some fantastic saves as goalkeeper. Well done to Aiza and Maida who scored some spectacular goals. Alaysiah-Mai and Aaliyah were solid in defense and Ameera, Bitania and Leyla showed great energy in midfield.
