Human Rights Assembly

Our Friday Assembly focussed on celebrating Human Rights. The children confidently told the very attentive children and parent/carer audience what our basic human rights are.

Leyla and a group of children told us why we need to promote and remember our rights.

The children in Reception sang a song about having rights, which they did really well!

Year 6 shared what was happening across the world for groups of people sharing their inspiring stories who are contained within our Human Rights Passports

The Nursery children’s video showed them singing their hearts out to ‘We’ve all got rights!’

Year 5, in preparation for the assembly talked about the different Rights of the Child and what they meant to them. They discussed different rights and talked about how they were important and why they were good to have in the world.

They then created different symbols about the different rights they felt were the most important to them, such as having clear water, education, shelter, being safe and to not be discriminated against.

The whole school sang the song that Year 6 wrote with Ms Forbes and then recorded with Project Zero during the summer. It was very appropriate for our assembly and reminds us of being a 'Gold Rights Respecting School’

Children in Year 2 then shared their rights posters, i.e. Article 31… You have the right to…. play and rest. Article 28….You have the right to…learn at school.

Year 1 shared those rights most important to them and lifted the globe to show they meant across the whole world….
Finally, the children reminded us about the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Miss Maltwood at the end of the assembly thanked Ms Spencer and all adults and children for the wonderful assembly. She also reminded us as a Gold Rights Respecting School, we always remember the Rights of the Child and ensure through our Pupil Voice Groups their voices are heard to work with adults to continually have these at the forefront when trying to improve our school provision and community.

Here's what the parents had to say:

Thank you. What an inspiring assembly! We were very impressed by the school rights song – can we get a recording?!

It made me very proud seeing the children singing about their rights.

Very well put together and beautiful to watch and listen to the song.

Great assembly – I know lots more about my human rights.
