Friday 13 December 2024 Year 3 Create Family Trees For their homework project, the children made family trees to learn more about what makes a community. As they worked, they explored how their families connect to others and how those connections create a sense of belonging. Tracing their roots and mapping out relatives helped them see the different ways people come together and support each other. It also got them thinking about how families, no matter how different, play an important role in building a strong and caring community.

Friday 13 December 2024 Anglo-Saxons and Vikings take over Year 5! What a day! Year 5 were nowhere to be seen for they had been taken over by Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. Now not a worry it was a very peaceful day up in year 5 between the two tribes known for some awful activities in the past but this was put aside for today. The children worked beautfuly in their pairs to create a cam toy inspired by the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons. We then showcased our outfits to the other classes, before we then came upstairs after lunch to design our our Norse God. A very fun day but I am certain Mrs Grant and Mr Andrews were happy to have their students back the next day.

Thursday 5 December 2024 Year 4 Conducted an Eggcellent Eggsperiment! This week, Year 4 conducted an eggcellent eggsperiment. The plan was to investigate how different can drinks affect our teeth; however, since (thanks to the prohibition of corporal punishment in 1986) we aren't allowed to remove children's teeth, we used boiled eggs! Eggshells possess a very similar chemical composition to teeth, you see. So far, the eggs seem to be reacting to the different liquids; releasing some rather interesting smells! We'll keep you updated.

Tuesday 3 December 2024 Year 5 Prepare for Anglo Saxon/Viking Day To prepare for our Anglo Saxon/Viking Day we have been looking at cam toys in Design and Technology. A cam toy uses hand-powered mechanisms to create cyclical motions that animate a scene. We have designed Anglo Saxon/Viking character/scenes to go on top of our toy. We looked at the different parts of the toy to understand how it moves where it turns rotary movements into linear motion, we have also looked at different cam shapes to help us decide which was our scenes will move. The shape of the cam effects the up and down movements it will make. Stayed tuned for the next weeks edition of the newsletter to see how our toys turned out

It is incredible how much progress they have made this half term already. What good foundations they made in Early Years and how resilient they are at attempting tricky things. We also furthered our Design and Technology skills by creating a moving picture of Stick Man using split pins to create movement. We are looking forward to creating a background and adding a mechanism to make them move like puppets.
