Friday 15 November 2024 ANTI-BULLYING WEEK ASSEMBLY 2024 Our whole school assembly on Friday, led by Year 4, celebrated Anti-Bullying Week and the theme was children making the right choices to Respect everyone. We were shown some really thought provoking video clips about making right choices and understanding what respect and bullying mean.The children then shared what they had been doing in each Year Group.

Tuesday 12 November 2024 Year 5 Study the Story of Beowulf This term in English, we have been studying Beowulf. Beowulf is story with Anglo Saxon origins from Denmark. It tells the tale of an awful creature names Grendel who terrorises the land. He causes havoc and chaos where he goes, Hrothgar the leader has built a massive Meade hall called Heorot. After Grendel has caused carnage, he looks to find a way to have all the madness ends. In enters Beowulf, a warrior who claims he will slay the dreadful creature. We did some role-play, acting out a scene with Hrothgar and Beowulf. We worked on our tone and sound of our voice to get touch with our characters. Monday 11 November 2024 Year 5 to Honour Remembrance Day This week in year 5 to honour Remembrance Day, we studied local naval soldier Jack Cornell, who was born in Leyton in 1900. We learnt that he was one of the youngest soldiers to take part in WW1. He was a naval solider and fought at the Battle of Jutland in Denmark on the ship HMS Chester, manning the guns on the ship. He was also one the youngest recipients of the Victoria Cross for his outstanding bravery in battle. Inspired by him receiving this award, we created our own medals in year 5 that we would award for good deeds, bravery, kindness, and many more.

Friday 8 November 2024 Year 3 Consider: 'What does it mean to be a Hindu in Britain today?' In our RE learning this term, we will be looking at the unit title ' What does it mean to be a Hindu in Britain today'. As part of this, we looked at two children, and how they show their faith in God through puja, Hindu worship. We set up a puja tray and used our senses to discuss each of the items and what we thought they could be used for. We then drew each item and wrote about what they are used for.

Friday 1 November 2024 Naturally Natural! Ms Montgomery and Miss Maltwood took a very excited group of children to The Natural History Museum on Tuesday 15th October. We had been invited there as we are very lucky to be selected to be involved in a project called ‘The National Education Nature Park Programme’ which aims to embed nature-based learning in the curriculum, and encourage children and young people all over the country to take action to improve their site for people and wildlife.

Friday 1 November 2024 2DM: What have we been up to this week? In Year Two this week in PE we have been balancing and holding shapes. In Science we have been investigating what would be the best suitable material for Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole to use as a bandage to help injured soldiers.

Thursday 31 October 2024 Year 6's Greek Day! It was Year 6’s Greek day! It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to immerse themselves in the rich culture and history of ancient Greece. The classrooms were decorated with creative homework projects from Greek-themed artwork to innovative models of ancient Greek architecture. At the start of the day, the children, dressed as ancient Greek Gods, Goddesses and mythical creatures, proudly showcased their costumes to their peers and teachers. They then put their PE skills to the test with the Greek Olympics and showed their creative side when making beautiful mosaics.

Monday 21 October 2024 Year 3 - All about Badgers In our English lessons, the children have been writing a non-chronological report on badgers. They have been focusing on organizing their information into paragraphs. They have included facts about a badger's appearance, where it lives, what it eats, and interesting features like their nocturnal habits or how they live in setts (underground burrows).

Monday 21 October 2024 Year 4 Egyptian Day! This week, Year 4 brought Ancient Egypt to the school—and I don't mean they brought their mummies!—for Ancient Egyptian Day! Just look at their amazing costumes that they made/prepared at home. Among other activities, the children made Canopic jars out of clay, just in case they one day need to store some loose organs. Good thing none of the artefacts we've handled were cursed; no one wants a re-enactment of Ghost with Tutankhamun's shrivelled apparition!

Friday 18 October 2024 Year 5 explore the Landmarks of London London Landmark Projects are back again in Year 5! After all our research, our art work and our trip into London to see all these incredible landmarks we were definitely inspired to make these projects one of a kind! From the London Eye to the British Museum and even the infamous Red Telephone Box, the children have worked incredibly hard to make these stunning pieces! The children will showcase their projects next term and a winner will be chosen by each class, but the overall winner will be chosen by Ms Maltwood, I don't know about you but I surely don't envy being her when it comes to choosing one! Thank you to the parents for all your help to in creating these projects too! Can you work out which landmark is which?

Monday 14 October 2024 Year 6 Visit the V&A Last week Year Six ventured all the way to South Kensington to visit the Victoria and Albert Museum to observe real Greek Pots! We first completed a tresure hunt where we found out what year the pots were from, the location they were excavated and their key features. Once we had taken note of all of these things, we then sketched our favourites in preparation for making our clay versions.

Monday 14 October 2024 Year 6 Explore Advertising In Year 6, we have been reviewing existing adverts and promotional films to help guide us in making our own advert to promote online safety. Last week, we sourced a range of media from the internet (taking into consideration copyrighting) and this week we videoed our footage. We are having so much fun creating them and can't wait for you to see the finished videos!

Friday 11 October 2024 Year 3 Learn all about Flowers In year 3 this week in science, we have identified and labelled the names of the different parts of flowers and their jobs. We also looked at the life cycle of flowering plants.

Thursday 3 October 2024 Year 3 are Programmers! As part of our unit 'We are programmers' in Computing, we have been learning to use the programme scratch. In our lesson this week, we were creating characters and dialogue for our animation. We learned the keyword 'decomposition', which is when you break a big task into a series of smaller tasks.

Wednesday 2 October 2024 Year 6 Recreate the Battle of Marathon! 'Last week year 6 recreated the origins of London's favourite race , the Marathon! We learnt how the heroic Pheidippides ran an entire 25 miles from Marathon to the city of Sparta to inform the soldiers of their victory in the Peloponnesian War - almost as long as the walk from the mobile classrooms to assembly! We created a range of freeze frames and actions that matched the narration that was read aloud to us to improve our speaking and listening skills. Our favourite part was re-enacting Pheidippides' incredibly dramatic death following his announcement! After this, we then heard about the evil deeds of King Xerxes of Persia and how he failed at winning war against the Greeks.

Friday 27 September 2024 Year5 - Tiddalick the Frog This week we have been role playing the story of Tiddalick the Frog. This is s story from the dreamtime in Australia talks about how Australia got its rivers. The children worked together to choose which characters to be in the story and act this out. Using this experience we will soon begin rewriting the story changing up the characters and items that are in the original piece

Friday 27 September 2024 Year 6 are Learning about Ancient Greece In Year 6, we are learning about Ancient Greece. In English, we are studying different Greek myths and we are working towards writing our own. In Topic, we have been looking at the Ancient Greece timeline and this has led us onto looking at different Greek artefacts. We have started designing our own Greek pots and later on we will be making them.

Thursday 26 September 2024 LKS2 Racket Pack (Badminton) This week, some lucky Year 4 students got to attend a Racket Pack Festival at the Peter May Sports Centre. This consisted of various badminton-themed games to acclimatise the children to both the racket and the shuttlecock. They had a great time running, swinging and throwing their way around the centre—a grand day all around. I imagine after this they'll be calling it goodminton!

Sunday 22 September 2024 Take Part in Tour De Waltham Forest! The Tour is our annual family cycling fun day, with lots of family-friendly activities and guided cycle rides through the borough. Tour de Waltham Forest 2024 will take place on Sunday 22 September at Fellowship Square (E17), to coincide with World Car Free Day.

Monday 16 September 2024 Year 3 explore are techniques In year 3 this week we have looked at line drawings and how to show movement underwater. We drew different sea creatures and also completed colour washes in preparation for our sea scape collages.

Friday 12 July 2024 1A ASSEMBLY - Food glorious food Last Friday we were so lucky to see Year 1A 's assembly.. What a treat it was!! It all started with their own version of Handa's Surprise called Inayah's Surprise, adapted to our school in London, instead of fruits from Africa as in the original story. The children then showed where the fruits are found on the map of the world. Mr Andrews is certainly improving our mapping skills!

Friday 5 July 2024 Music Assembly 2024 What an amazingly melodic assembly we were treated to on Friday brilliantly organised by Ms Forbes! The assembly opened with Oisin and Eisa confidently playing "I Got the Fiddle Blues" on the violin as the audience arrived. Following this, sisters Mamediarra and Awa welcomed the audience with a drumming demonstration, leading into a powerful performance of "High Hopes" by the drum club, who played some complex rhythms over a backing track.
